Meet Matt Gonzalez and Krist Novoselic on October 19

10/19/2006 - 5:30pm
10/19/2006 - 8:00pm

Please join former San Francisco superviosr Matt Gonzalez and Nirvana’s bassist Krist Novoselic in supporting the exciting campaign in Oakland for Instant Runoff Voting/Measure O.

When: Thursday, October 19, 5:30-8 pm
Where: Law office of Gonzalez & Leigh, Two Shaw Alley, San Francisco, 415.512.2000

This November, Oakland voters will vote on Measure O, which will follow San Francisco's lead and establish instant runoff voting for Oakland's local elections. This is a really important campaign. Not only is Oakland important in and of itself, but also as part of the overall effort to spread IRV to all of California. Another city joining San Francisco, Burlington, VT, as well as the states of North Carolina, Louisiana and Arkansas that are using IRV for certain races, helps spread the word. In addition to Oakland, Instant Runoff Voting is also on the ballot in Davis, CA, Minneapolis, and Pierce County/Tacoma, WA. So Oakland is a MUST WIN situation.

The Measure O campaign has won the endorsement of progressive Oakland, including elected officials like Assemblywoman Loni Hancock, Board of Supervisors President Keith Carson, City Attorney John Russo, Alameda County Central Labor Council, Sierra Club, Democratic Party, Green Party, Peace and Freedom Party, Common Cause, League of Women Voters, Oakland Tribune and many more. See the full list at www.oaklandirv.org.

But it takes a lot of money to reach all the voters in a city the size of Oakland. So please come to this important fundraising event with Matt Gonzalez and Nirvana’s bassist Krist Novoselic, kick back and enjoy the vibe, and help us spread to Oakland what San Francisco already knows -- that IRV is one of the keys to saving American democracy!
